Cheslav Voltinic

Cheslav looms over most people he meets like a black clad scarecrow. At 6’6”, he is usually in a position to look down his nose at most of his so-called peers. His face is not unattractive, but the angles are too sharp and his nose is too predatory to truly be considered handsome. He usually hides his eyes behind green tinted circular glass of delicate manufacture. His black hair is worn short and slicked back beneath his usual dapper hats, coming to a prominent widow’s peak over his brow. His eyebrows are thin, as is the oiled mustache and goatee that accents the sharp angles of his face. He usually wears the elegant somber attire of a Borcan nobleman, consisting of dark blue or black doublet studded with silver pins, black trousers, and often a scarlet sash across his chest affixed with a red weeping rose signifying his membership in the court of Duchessa Ivana Boritsi. He is almost never seen without a massive gray cat that he refers to as Greymalkin.

As a well-regarded master of the Black Cabal, Cheslav Voltinic considers himself above the machinations of the lesser members. He has had nearly half a dozen successful apprentices in his day, three of which themselves have ascended to the rank of master (all of them attractive young women). He is a witty, charming, gentleman of the world with a keen and incisive intellect and a talent for political maneuver, which is the only way he could have possibly succeeded in the court of the “Black Widow”. He is also not a man to be crossed, and takes slights against his vanity with a dose of simmering vengeance.

Cheslav is currently investigating a worrisome thread that he believes may be worming its way through the underbelly of Impilturan society. His contacts in Wye have informed him of the “attack” on the Cathedral of St. Vitus and of the arrests made by the Knights of the Temple of two badly burned vagrants suspected of starting the fire that severely damaged the Palace of the Sentire. He discovered the remnants of the mind control exercised by Vladimir Nobriskov and his Enchanter’s Bond, a pattern similar to some discoveries he has made on his own back in Borca. He is known to have contacted Cyril Rhodes about the witchery used in the attacks in Wye.
